Waiting Line and Line Series, 2014
“Waiting Line” and “Waiting” Series, a natural waiting scene of a multicultural group of people anticipating an unseen but desired event, describes the special but common moments in social environments, where a mass movement toward something is formed. Regardless of how diverse the backgrounds, personalities, behaviors and individual moments of being of the people captured in a group or a repeated fashion, these images reveal the shared similar movements while time is absorbed and bring a broad curiosity toward the unseen forces that draw people together and make them willing to wait or anticipate.
The former “Waiting Line” Series explores the responses of people toward the unseen forces from a pre-set frame where the people pass through in a repeated fashion, and connected multiple frames back to their sequential space in time. The latter “Waiting” Series highlights the homogeneous quality of people’s grouping and responses. In the Line Series, though the mass aggregation is not so obvious, the direction of people’s movements and anticipation in the line forming is another kind of variations.
